FROM SIMPLE TO COMPLEX
The Square Pattern Experiment

This project concerns itself with the question of how many different pattern one can create by using a simple geometric form. It´s an on-going project where I experiment with the shape of a square becoming different, complex images, through the usage of certain design parameters f.e. like flipping, mirroring or size changing. I also look for application e.g. in textile design.

Pattern or ornaments in general are mostly based on shapes, which repeat themselves in a certain order. The biggest point in naming a picture a "pattern" or an "ornament" is the point of repitition. Throughout history ornaments or pattern have been used in different contexts in art and design. The fascination of this kind if images, is the complexity and variety in their visual appearance.
